Creating a Simple Armature
“I will demonstrate how to create an armature for a stuffed toy puppy using basic techniques. As it’s a toy, it doesn’t need to be anatomically perfect. We start by completing a simple armature, then add paper and secure it with tape. After that, we apply clay for more detail and use additional wire for…

Research at the Lab
Some individuals choose white lab coats for research; I opt for a swimsuit. Immersed, I observe watercolors, gradation, values, and chroma. I sense movement, temperature, and sunlight. These remembered impressions influence my painting or sculpture when I return to my easel.

Surviving Cancer & Art Prize 10
Browsing through my blog posts, people must grasp who I am—I survive through my art. Almost a year ago, in 2017, on September 8th, I received a diagnosis of Stage ONE Lung Cancer—ADENOCARCINOMA. This silent tumor manifested itself with only a slight cough as a symptom. I am stepping into a new year and embarking…

Learning the Process
“How Bronze Sculptures are Cast” I have been asked many times the process in creating bronze. The first sentence I ask is, “How much time do you have?” Sharing the process of creating a bronze sculpture takes more than five minutes, its lengthy and very fulfilling. I found this site in Oregon that is very…

The Fever Exhibition
In this blog post, you will find out about the exhibition featuring Judy Salinsky’s ocean-inspired sculpture of a fever of stingrays. Some of the largest rays such as manta rays and cow nose rays never stop swimming and migrate in their thousands to feeding grounds each year. These large groups can reach up to 10,000 individuals and…
Multiple Stingrays is a Fever
Multiple Stingrays, by definition, are called Fever, which I am creating in this blog. Creating multiple rays within a single sculpture is a meticulous and labor-intensive process that demands careful planning and the collaborative efforts of many skilled individuals. While the inception of an idea is merely the starting point, bringing that idea to fruition…
Learning to Create Multiples for a Large Sculpture
The process continues: Making the wax mold, spurring the wax form for the bronze to flow into the ceramic shell, then the molten bronze. After the bronze cools down from 2200 degrees, the time-consuming task of “Chasing” is cleaning up the ceramic, gridding off the shell, sandblasting, grinding, and polishing.
Materials & Technique in Clay
I wanted to share the materials and techniques for creating the clay rays. The hours dedicated to refining the texture of the clay have proven to be a worthy investment. At first glance, one might not discern the meticulous effort poured into every inch of the sculpture, particularly in the initial stages captured in the…
